1st-4th grade
Main Focus: God Blesses (Genesis 25-33 Jacob Wrestles)

Anticipate: Esau the Hunter
Jacob and Esau were twin brothers with very different characteristics that God blessed them with.  Genesis describes Esau as a "skillful hunter, a man of the open country".
Memory Verse: "Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments."  (Deuteronomy 7:9)
Game: Back-to Back Race
Jacob was renamed as "Israel", which means "one who wrestles with God," and God blessed him.  This game reminds us that whenever we feel like we wrestle or struggle with God, we need Him to help us overcome those issues.

Before Jacob met and wrestled with God, he was selfish, cunning and did not understand God's blessing.  But after Jacob wrestled with God, he understood God's blessing is to have a relationship with God who had the power to change him inside out.  Jacob then became strong in assurance of God's favor and was ready to meet his brother Esau again.  Being blessed by God is more than having money or possessions, it's about having more of God in our lives.  God blesses and His blessings last forever.

RESPOND: Jacob's Tent/ Hide-and-Seek Verse
May the lives of our children overflow with thankfulness for God's blessings.  May our children pass on His blessings to others.

September 20th Lesson

This Sunday, all classes in the Children's Ministry talked about God's design for marriage and family.

Keep Jesus and the cross at the center of every marriage.
Passages: Genesis 2:4-24; Matthew 19:5; Ephesians 5:31; Mark 10:9; Proverbs 22:6; Deuteronomy 6:6-9

Teaching points:
*God is the Creator of all things, including marriages and families.
*God's design for marriage is for one man and one woman and it is for a life time.
*Children come from a mother and a father.  God intended parents to love, care for and guide children as they grow.
*God's design is always the best.  Families and marriages work best when God's design is followed.

Game: Building with Steady Hands
Just as God gave Noah specific instructions to build the ark, we had to play this game by following instructions.
God sent the flood, just as He promised.  He protected Noah and his family from the flood, just as He promised.  After the flood, God made a rainbow to symbolize His promise to never flood the earth again.  Because we know God always keeps His promises, we can trust Him and have hope that one day, Jesus will return to take us to heaven to be with Him forever.

Even behind the darkness, God's promise is still there.  God always keeps His word.

Main Focus: God Redeems (Genesis 1-3: Creation and the Fall)

Anticipate: Feathery Birds
God loved creating things, even the birds come in so many different shapes and sizes and He gave us the gift to be creators too!

Worship with singing:  led by JrHi / High School band
Memory Verse: "Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments."  (Deuteronomy 7:9)

As we read Genesis, the first chapters tell us of God's perfect love and care for His creation.  As He saved the best for last, God created mankind made in His own image.  God gave them responsibility over the earth and the animals.  They lived in perfect relationship with God.  But as soon as they choose sin, they gave up their right to live in perfect harmony with God.  Try as they might, to cover their own sin and shame, it was not sufficient.  Only God can redeem us from sin.  From the very beginning of time, God gave the people the promise of the Redeemer, who would eventually pay the penalty for the sins of all mankind.  God redeems.

RESPOND: Being a blessing by praying
