Main Focus: Remember and Celebrate God's Abundant Provision
The Feast of Harvests

God commands His people to keep festivals and feasts so that they'd remember what God has done for them and not forget His goodness. Israel is a farming society.  They depend heavily on God's provision of rain to give them good crops each year.  As they harvest, they take time off work to celebrate and remember God's abundant provision.

Solomon, part 2  (1 Kings 7-11)

Anticipate: What Is It Puzzle
Solomon was blessed because he followed God whole heartedly at the beginning of his life. He could see the big picture and that his job was to rule God’s people wisely so he asked God for wisdom. In response God blessed him with so much more than he asked for!! When you know what to look for it can be easier to see what is right in front of you. And when you look for God in your life, you will see His blessings everywhere.

Memory Verse
"How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you...in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in yo."--Psalm 31:19

God is faithful!  He kept His promises to David and Solomon by blessing their kingdom, and giving Solomon wisdom, riches, favor and long life.  God is also faithful in keeping His word of warnings.  God warned Solomon not to worship other gods and to keep His decrees all his life.  But when Solomon gave in little by little to the idol worshipping of his wives, he stepped away from God.  As warned, the nation of Israel split in two.  God withdrew His presence from the temple and His protection from the people of Israel.  Even with this tragic ending of Solomon's reign, God is still faithful in keeping His promises to David that his kingdom will reign forever by sending the ultimate King, Jesus.  God is faithful.

Respond: Broken Heart Door Hanger
The exciting beginning to Solomon’s reign ended badly because he was no longer whole heartedly devoted to God. This broke God’ heart because His love is faithful and will never leave us. Through Jesus we can be reconciled to God and come back into covenant with Him.
Bless:
“He answered, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’ and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”—Luke 10:27

May our children seek God with their whole heart and life. May our children follow Him and trust Him each day.

Solomon, part 1  (1 Kings 1-6)

Anticipate: How Many Blessings
God gives us so many good things that it is hard to remember them all or even think of how many blessings He has already given to us.  Writing them down is one way to count our blessings from God.

Memory Verse
"How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you...in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in yo."--Psalm 31:19

David’s faith not only brought him blessings (good things) from God, it also extended to bring his son Solomon good things. On top of the promises God made to David, He offered to give Solomon further blessings and Solomon asked for wisdom. This showed that his heart was in the right place and concerned more for his people than his own benefit. As a result God gave Solomon not only wisdom but also, honor, wealth, long life and fame. God blessed Solomon to be a blessing to the Israelites.  That’s the way God works because He loves us. His blessings multiply and when we realize how much He gives us all the time we remember His love for us!  The biggest blessing God gave us is His Son, Jesus.  And as we freely receive His forgiveness and salvation, we should freely give His goodness of Jesus and extend His kindness to others.  May we be a blessing to others as we have been blessed by God.

Respond: Blessing Hearts
Today we want to blessing someone else and because of God’s generosity we’ll get to bless ourselves too!

Bless:
“May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine on us—so that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations.
May the peoples praise you, God; may all the peoples praise you.” Psalm 67:1-3

May God’s goodness and blessings overflow in the lives of our children.

~Jesus is omniscient because He has authority over all things.

Main Focus: God Is Sovereign
King David  (2 Samuel 2; 5-7)

Anticipate: Hidden Promises
We’ve been learning about David and how God lifted him up out of obscurity into a position of influence and power. David trusted God because of His experiences with him throughout his life, today we have the bible to help us learn about God in addition to seeing Him work in our lives. God makes many promises to us and like David, we need to live like they are true… but we can’t do that if we don’t know them.  We need to study God's word and and live out those promises knowing God is sovereign!

Worship with Youth Band
Game: Heads or Tails

Memory Verse
"How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you...in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in yo."--Psalm 31:19

Because David believed that in spite of his youth, relative lack of strength and stature God could and would help him defeat Goliath, he did. We need to remember not only that God can strengthen us and that He himself is powerful, we need to remember that God is in control. That same God is willing to promise us to help, to provide and even to comfort those who love Him. Why? He has no reason nor is anything forcing Him to promise ANYTHING to us but He does it because He is our creator and He loves us.
Today we’ll learn about God’s promise to David that didn’t come true for many, many years… but because David knew God was in control, he continued to be faithful, to obey and to believe and eventually received the kingship.

Respond: GOD’s Promises Activity and Craft
How do you think David must have felt waiting for God’s promise to be fulfilled? How do you feel when something doesn’t happen as quickly as you hope? It must have been very hard for David to keep on believing that God would fulfill His promise to him battle after battle, year after year. David must have really trusted God and been convinced of God’s love for him. We need to build up that kind of trust and faith in God ourselves and unlike David we have the bible to help us if we are willing to learn its secrets.
Bless:
Among the gods there is none like you, Lord;
no deeds can compare with yours.”
—Psalm 86:8

May our children know God as their all-powerful King-the One who is seated in the heavenly realms, far above all earthly rulers.
