July 26th Lessons

Village Life with God Lesson 8--Health and Healing 
God gives guidelines to His people about caring for their bodies.
"A cheerful heart is good medicine,
    but a crushed spirit dries up the bones."

Focus:
~God is the Great Healer.
~God gave laws to keep His people healthy.
~God healed Naaman of leprosy.

Triumphant Over All Lesson 8--Be Courageous!
John 15:18-16:33
Jesus promises His disciples that the Holy Spirit will come to guide and strengthen them.
"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
                                                                                                                                        --John 16:33
Focus:
~Just as the world hated Jesus, it also hates and persecutes His followers.
~The Holy Spirit is a Counselor who guides and strengthens believers.
~Jesus promised the grief at His death will turn to joy when the disciples see Him alive again.

Celebration Party!
Each Sunday, the kids receive rocks at the door if they have done their devotions during the week, memorized the memory verse, or invited a friend.  
The rocks, then, go into this rock wall.  When the rocks accumulate and reach to the top of the wall, we throw a party to celebrate.  And trust me, no one wants to miss the party. 
Remember the Rock Wall back in February?
This was what it looked like early July!
It is time for a party celebration for the completion of our rock wall!
The children wore their sunglasses to the class for this beach theme party.  They got to take off their shoes and enjoy sitting on "the sandy beach".  We played games, snacked made a craft, and talked about our summer, what we learned from VBS and who God is.

July 19th Lessons

God provides everything His people need.

Focus:
~God provides everything we have and need.
~Bible-times people came to the marketplace to sell and buy goods.
~Bible-times people traded for things they needed.

John 14:1-15:17
Jesus promises to help His disciples, even after He leaves.
"This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples."

Focus:
~Jesus prepared the disciples for His departure.
~Jesus is the only way to God.
~Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit to guide and help His followers.
~Jesus taught His followers to be fruitful.

Main Focus: God Is Contentment
Philippians 3-4 

ANTICIPATE:  
A Personal Letter Activity
This game reminds us that Paul wrote letters to different churches to encourage them while he was in prison.  

Worship with singing:  led by JrHi / High School band

Memory Verse: "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."  (Isaiah 41:10)


While Paul was in chain and in prison, he wrote to the church in Phillipi and share the secret of contentment.  Contentment is being ok with what we have and trusting God that He is taking care of us no matter what.  We learned how to be content when we feel sad, worried, grumpy, weak and hopeless.  God's word in Philippians 4:8 says:
"Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things."


Engage: Thankful Booklet
Being thankful helps us focus on what God has done for us and look forward to His work to come.
May our children learn and exercise the secret of contentment no matter their situation.  May they grow to be grateful people of God.

Focus:
~Jesus has divine control over the events and timing of His death.
~Jesus set an example by washing the disciples' feet .
~Jesus transformed the Passover into the Lord's Supper.

Galatians 5-6 (Fruit of the Spirit and Galatia)

ANTICIPATE:  
"What Fruit Juice Is It?" Activity
With this activity, children guessed what fruit juice was being served by tasting a sample. They can recognize a fruit by its juice just the way others should be able to recognize the fruit of the Holy Spirit in our lives

Memory Verse: "Now the one who has fashioned us for this very purpose is God, who has given us the Spirit as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. (2 Corinthians 5:5 )
In today's Big God Story, Paul wrote a letter to the church in Galatia to let them know that believers can have the Holy Spirit—God Himself—live inside us and guide our lives! God’s Spirit renews us. God’s Spirit takes our old, sinful lives and gives us a fresh start and makes each of us into a new creation.  Paul compared the work of seeds, which grow into the fruits they were designed to become, with the work of God’s Spirit renewing us by growing His qualities in us.

Engage: ”Renewing” (Cleaning) Pennies
We placed four pennies and fully submerged in the four substances and guess which substance will do the best job at cleaning the pennies.  Through this activity, we are reminded that God renews us through His Holy Spirit and it alone can clean us of our sins. 

"But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit."--Titus 3:4-5
May God’s Spirit renew our children as He grows His spiritual fruit in them. May the fruit He produces show others His great power.

~Jesus is our Redeemer who pays for our sins.
~God created humans to be in charge over the animals.
~Adam's first job was naming the animals.

Focus:
~Believers must always be ready for Jesus' return.
~God expects believers to serve Him to their best abilities with God has given them.
~Jesus will judge everyone's actions upon His return.

Feast of Tabernacles

ANTICIPATE:  
Celebrate Feast of Tabernacles

People of Israel set up shelters, rested from work, worshipped God and remembered how God had let them through the wilderness and into the Promised Land.  We set up 2 tents as we remember what God has done for us.

Memory Verse: "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."  (Isaiah 41:10)

Every quarter, our TRU children would participate in the game of ZONK! to help them remember what they've discovered during the past several weeks in the Big God Story.
