Respond: "The Spirit Changes Everything"
Before He returned to heaven, Jesus told His disciples to make disciples. This may feel overwhelming at times, but God doesn’t expect us to do it alone: We have the Holy Spirit inside us to give us strength. God desires to see us live like new creations, so He sends His Holy Spirit to live in us. God’s Spirit changes everything, He changes us and teaches us what God wants us to know. Think about how one ingredient in our next activity can change everything in the same way God’s Spirit changes everything.

Sin separates man and the holy God.  God had a plan to restore that relationship In the Old testament, God required the Israelites to offer sacrifices to mend their broken relationship with God. Hundreds of years before Jesus came, prophet Isaiah prophesied the coming of a Redeemer, a Messiah who will once and for all, save people from their due punishment for sin.   In the Big God Story today, Jesus suffered the died on the cross to restore relationship between men and God.  The soldiers mocked Him and put on Him a crown of thorns.  The crowns we are making are made out of paper, yet they are uncomfortable to wear.  The one Jesus was forced to wear was made out of real thorns that poked and hurt.  Jesus endured the painful, terrible death to be the perfect and last sacrifice for all mankind so that because of Him, we can be in relationship with God.

Jesus
Respond: "Lock and Key"
Jesus' death and resurrection is the key to The Big God Story.  It's what The Big God Story is all about.  It's what makes it possible for us to have a relationship with Him today.  Not all keys fit all locks and that similar locks may have different keys.  It is important that we remember that there is only one key to God's kingdom.
Bless:
“He provided redemption for his people; he ordained his covenant forever—holy and awesome is his name.”  Psalm 111:9

May our children know that Jesus suffered and died for their sins so they can be in relationship with God.

Worship with Youth Band
Game: "Toxic Swamp"
Memory Verse
“He provided redemption for his people; he ordained his covenant forever--holy and awesome is his name.”                                          —Psalm 111:9

Jesus performed many miraculous signs while he ministered to people on earth because he was compelled by the love of God.  God's love gave Jesus a strong desire to obey and follow God's command, even doing difficult things and going through tough times.  Just before His death, Jesus shared a last supper with His disciples, predicted His death, prayed in the garden of Gethsemane until sweat dropped like blood, and was betrayed by one of His disciples with a kiss.  And soon, God's love would compel Jesus to die on the cross for all mankind.

Respond: "Maze of What Compels Me"
When we’re compelled by something, it means we have a strong desire to do something. Show the kids the washers and magnet. The magnet represents God’s love, and the washers represent us when we’re in relationship with Him. When we know God, His love compels us to follow Him.
Bless:
“He provided redemption for his people; he ordained his covenant forever—holy and awesome is his name.”  Psalm 111:9

May our children have great joy as they remember that Jesus died on the cross to pay for their sins.  May God’s amazing love compel our children to tell the world about what He’s done.
