Main Focus: Protestant Reformation
Anticipate: Luther's Rose
500 years ago, Martin Luther nailed the 95 thesis on the door of the church to warn people about the false practices.  Ordinary people during Luther's time had no access to the word of God.  Only certain people got to read the word of God and only certain people had the privilege of singing praises to God.  Because of that, people did not know the truth and thought that by doing good deeds, purchasing holy jewelry, say a special prayer, rubbing the toe of a statue or purchasing indulgences would grant them God's forgiveness. Luther wanted people to know that it is God's grace through Jesus Christ that we are saved.  Believing in Jesus is the only way to be forgiven and have salvation.  There's no other way.  We can not pay our way to heaven.  Luther stood up against falsehood to bring God's truth.  Along with Luther, the printing press also helped ordinary people learn about God's truth by having access to God's word, the Bible.  Because of Luther's effort, people today can know about God's truth by reading God's word.

Main Focus: God Is the One True God
(10 Commandments--Exodus 19-20)
Anticipate: Traffic

Because of God's love for us, He gave us His law to help us live our lives to the fullest.  While following rules might seem limiting or inconvenient sometimes, it's important to remember that God has our best interests in mind and that His law is there to protect and guide us.  This game of traffic shows us the potential dangers when we have no rules ("everyone does what they thought is right").

Worship with singing:  Youth Band
Game: Jump In, Jump Out
Memory Verse:
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.  In all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight." --Proverbs 3:5-6

God revealed Himself to the people of Israel at Mt. Sinai.  After the Israelites consecrated themselves (including washing their clothes), God appeared before the people and spoke to them to show them that He is the one true God.  God also gave His 10 commandments to the people to let them know His perfect standard.  However, God law also points out our sinfulness and that on our own, we can never achieve God's holy standard.  That's why God sent Jesus, to give us His righteousness, so we can approach our holy God.

RESPOND: Written in Stone

God gave the Israelites the 10 commandments written in stone because they were meant to last forever and be remembered.  God mad us and we are his.  That means He will never leave us or forsake us.  He loves us and choses us to be His own so we can worship Him as one true God.

Bless:"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.  In all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight." --Proverbs 3:5-6
May our children rejoice in the knowledge that God loves them and offers them a relationship with Him.  May their lives display to others the great things He has down for our children.

Main Focus: God Is Provider (Wandering--Exodus 15:22-17:7)
Anticipate: Wants vs. Needs

God’s people needed to rely on God's provision in the wilderness.  Let's think about the difference between wants and needs. What are some things we can not live without?  What are some things that only God can provide?  Let's give thanks to Him who knows and provides for our every need.

Memory Verse:
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.  In all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight." --Proverbs 3:5-6

God understood the physical needs of the Israelites and He provided what they needed for 40 years!  God provided physical sustenance for the Israelites in the wilderness by giving them manna to eat and water to drink.   God gave them what they needed to live on earth.  Today, God provides us something much greater: eternal life in Jesus Christ.  God is our provider.

RESPOND: Water Experiments

God is the God of Science.  He created it and provided it for our good use and to our benefit.  Today, we used Science to remember the truth of God.

Remember and Celebrate: Passover Feast
Celebrating God as Deliverer

One of the biggest events in all of Israel's history was when God delivered the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. God commanded the Israelites to celebrate the Passover at the beginning of every year to remember this event.  Families and friends gathered for a meal and talked about the stories of slavery in Egypt and God's powerful deliverance.  Today, we celebrate God as Deliverer because God has delivered us from spiritual bondage through His Son, Jesus, our Passover Lamb. Now we are free and Jesus is alive!

10:45am TRU 1st-4th grade Main Focus: God Gives New Life (Passover and Red Sea Crossing--Exodus 12-14)Anticipate: Mystery Letters

God’s people spent hundreds of years in Egypt. With this activity, help children discover a little about this country. If time permits, have children trade their messages with one another to decode.
Worship with singing Youth Band
Game: New Life Tag
Memory Verse:
"The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.  He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom." --Isaiah 40:28

God commanded the Israelites to partake the 1st Passover by applying the blood of the lamb on their doorframes and eating the Passover meal in haste as the destroyer came to the land during the last plague God sent.  The destroyer/death passover the houses with the blood on the doorframes and as God promised, the Israelites were urged to leave Egypt right away.  2 million Israelites left Egypt to start their new life.  Thought Pharaoh later changed his mind and went after his Israelite slaves, God provided a way for His people to cross the Red Sea and never had to fear about going back to Egypt as slaves.  God wants His people to have new life so that they know that He is the only true God and that they will worship Him only.  Today, God gives us new life through Jesus Christ, our Passover Lamb.  Through Jesus' sacrifice, those who believe in Him have new life and are in relationship with God.
RESPOND: Pompom Lamb

Again and again, God proves he is the One who hears our cries and gives us new life. With the blood of the lamb on the doorframes, the Israelites were protected from the last plague and were able to safely leave Egypt. In the Bible, Jesus is called the “Lamb of God”. And like the blood of the lamb saved the Israelites, Jesus’ death makes the way for us to be saved.  Jesus is our Passover Lamb.

Bless:
“The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom.” Isaiah 40:28
May our children know that Jesus is our Passover Lamb and that God gives new life to those who believe in Him.
