Main Focus: God Is Sovereign
King David  (2 Samuel 2; 5-7)

Anticipate: Hidden Promises
We’ve been learning about David and how God lifted him up out of obscurity into a position of influence and power. David trusted God because of His experiences with him throughout his life, today we have the bible to help us learn about God in addition to seeing Him work in our lives. God makes many promises to us and like David, we need to live like they are true… but we can’t do that if we don’t know them.  We need to study God's word and and live out those promises knowing God is sovereign!

Memory Verse
"How abundant are the good things that you have stored up for those who fear you...in the sight of all, on those who take refuge in yo."--Psalm 31:19

Because David believed that in spite of his youth, relative lack of strength and stature God could and would help him defeat Goliath, he did. We need to remember not only that God can strengthen us and that He himself is powerful, we need to remember that God is in control. That same God is willing to promise us to help, to provide and even to comfort those who love Him. Why? He has no reason nor is anything forcing Him to promise ANYTHING to us but He does it because He is our creator and He loves us.
Today we’ll learn about God’s promise to David that didn’t come true for many, many years… but because David knew God was in control, he continued to be faithful, to obey and to believe and eventually received the kingship.

Respond: GOD’s Promises Activity and Craft
How do you think David must have felt waiting for God’s promise to be fulfilled? How do you feel when something doesn’t happen as quickly as you hope? It must have been very hard for David to keep on believing that God would fulfill His promise to him battle after battle, year after year. David must have really trusted God and been convinced of God’s love for him. We need to build up that kind of trust and faith in God ourselves and unlike David we have the bible to help us if we are willing to learn its secrets.
Bless:
Among the gods there is none like you, Lord;
    no deeds can compare with yours.”
—Psalm 86:8

May our children know God as their all-powerful King-the One who is seated in the heavenly realms, far above all earthly rulers.
