10:45am TRU

1st-4th grade
Main Focus: God Is Merciful
Jonah 1-4 (Jonah)
ANTICIPATE:  Origami Whale
Jonah the prophet tried to run away from God.  But when he did, Jonah ended up in the belly of a giant fish!  God used the great fish to show Jonah how he truly had been called to speak God's word to the Ninevites.
We saw in today's Big God Story how God showed mercy to Jonah and the Ninevites even though they did not deserve it.  God showed mercy to Jonah by allowing a big fish to swallow him whole.  God used the fish to save Jonah's life.  God also showed mercy to Jonah by providing him with a plant to help keep him cool.  God Is Merciful and wants everyone to know Him.  Just like it brought God joy to show mercy to the Ninevites, it brings Him joy to show mercy to us today.
Memory Verse: "In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.  (Proverbs 16:9 )

Worship Response: Making A Mercy Ship
When Jonah got on that ship to run away from God he hoped it would take him far away.  God doesn't want us to run away from Him.  He wants us to sail TOWARDS Him and to do so by remembering how merciful He has been to us and by showing mercy to others.
"But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved."--Ephesians 2:4-5
May God show our children mercy and grace whenever they need it.  May they rejoice and worship God when God shows mercy to those around them.
