10:45am TRU
1st-4th grade
Main Focus: God Is Worthy (Judges 6-8--Gideon)
Anticipate: Gideon's Fleece

God called Gideon to lead the Israelites against the oppressive Midianites and told Gideon that He would be with His people the entire time.  But several times Gideon asked God to reassure him through a fleece as a sign of God’s presence.  God displayed His power to show that we can trust Him because He is worthy.

Memory Verse: "'Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."  (Deuteronomy 31:6)

God gave Gideon many signs to reveal He was in control and would win the battle for the Israelites.  When it came time to fight the Midianites, God reduced the size of the Israelites' army to only 300.  By doing this, God made sure that no one took any credit for this unbelievable victory because He alone is worthy.
Response: Gideon's Torch
During today’s part of The Big God Story Gideon and his soldiers brought torches with them as they went to fight the enemy.  These torches remind us of how God fights for us and is worthy of all glory.
May our children know God is worthy of their time, resources and praise.  May they spend this week praising our God who is worthy.

10:45am TRU
1st-4th grade
Main Focus: God Is With Us (Judges 4-5--Deborah)
Anticipate: Hidden Picture
God rescued the Israelites from the Canaanites by calling a woman named Deborah and a man named Barak to lead them in battle against King Jabin and his commander, Sisera.  Because God was with His people, God won the battle for His people.  Deborah and Barak needed to be aware of the geography of the land before they led the Israelites into battle.  They needed to find the best way to victory and in doing so out to see the bigger picture from God's perspective.
Memory Verse: "'Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."  (Deuteronomy 31:6)

The Israelites had fallen into a cycle of rebellion, repentance, and restoration.  When Israel chose to turn away from God, God turned them over to the hands of their enemies.  God chose Deborah, a prophetess to be a judge and to help deliver Israel.  When Deborah encouraged the Israelites to return to God, God immediately delivered them from the hands of their enemies and showed them that He is always with them.
Response: Find Your Way
When we do things the way God plans, things get easier.  And when we have many people together obeying God's call that changes things, too.
May our children know God is always with them.  May they always choose to turn to Him.
