Temptation in the Wilderness  (Matthew 3:13-17; 4:1-11)

Anticipate: "True or False"
Knowing the bible helped Jesus to resist the temptations that Satan placed before Him. Being wholly human it wasn’t easy for Jesus to do what God wanted, but He used scripture to help Him.  We have learned a lot of scripture and have learned a lot about God too.   We can use these truth to help us resist temptations.

Memory Verse
"Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."--Hebrews 4:16

Today, we learn the story of Jesus time in the wilderness where He met the devil who tried to tempt Him to sin. Wow! Did it ever occur to you that Jesus could be tempted? Remember He was all human AND all God
so He understands our feelings, our thoughts and even our temptations. The way Jesus responded to Satan is a good lesson for all of us. He used bible verses to remind Himself of God’s commands and to rebuke Satan at
the same time. Being tempted is not wrong.  Jesus was temped yet He did not sin because He knew exactly what God intended for Him.  He wanted to honor God and not misuse His power.  We, too, can resist temptation, with God's help.

Respond: "What Would You Do"
Some temptations are easy to resist. Most of the time we don’t want to steal or lie or cheat or hurt someone.  But it’s not those situations that are hard to deal with. It’s the situations in which no one else would know about your choice to sin and where there may not be a completely right choice.

May God fill our children with the power of the Holy Spirit.  May God's Spirit lead them each day.
