Healing of the Paralyzed Man (Mark 2:1-12)

Anticipate: "Solving the Problem"
In today's story, we heard about a paralyzed man and his 4 friends.  The man and his friends aren’t named in the bible but their dedication and determination to help him got him healed. How persistent are you?  What people sometimes miss is the role the man’s friends play in getting him in front of Jesus. Jesus must have been very special and important to them for them to break into the roof to lower the paralytic to Jesus. They were clearly determined to solve their problem and puzzle out an answer any way they could. When you are bringing someone to God do you make as much effort and spend as much energy as they did?

Memory Verse
"Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."--Hebrews 4:16

After Jesus was tempted in the wilderness and had complete victory over Satan, He started his public ministry preaching the Word of God from town to town.  He also healed many people.  When people heard that Jesus had returned home, they all wanted to see Jesus.  It was so crowded where Jesus was that the paralytic and his 4 friends could not get in to the house.  The friends did not give up.  They were determined to get their paralyzed friend to Jesus that they dug a hole on the roof and lowered him down right to Jesus.  When Jesus saw the 4 friends' faith, He said to the paralytic, "Son, your sin has been forgiven."  Only God can forgive sins.  Jesus said so to let everyone know that He IS God.  He also wanted people to know that our physical body will one day die.  Unlike temporary physical wellness, having spiritual healing/forgiveness is lasting and far more important.  He then, told the paralytic to take up his mat and walk.  Jesus heals and forgives!

Respond: "God Heals and Forgives" Pop Up Story Card
The Pop-Up story card for the story of the Paralytic Man is to remind us how much effort it took to bring the man before Jesus and how happy they were that Jesus not only healed him but also forgave his sins.
